I admit I fell into the Pinterest trap…despite my normal best judgement, I tried one of these viral pins that seems to have no real source or a ton of different places claiming to have the “best” or “original” recipe. So I browsed through a few and decided that I didn’t like any one of them, but I could combine them and add my own twist!
I served this over shredded pork stuffed sweet potatoes. All I can say is this was Delicious with the capital firmly intended. Everyone agreed, and we all went back for seconds. The sauce is slightly spicy, not too sweet, and has a slight tang. If I made it again, I would up the chili content as it gets diluted when poured over the shredded pork.
6 oz Dr. Pepper
1 cup ketchup
1/3 cup brown sugar
1 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
½ tsp salt
2 tsp chili flakes/crushed chili in oil
1 garlic clove grated or 1 tsp garlic powder
Combine all ingredients in a medium sized sauce pan and bring to a low simmer. Stir frequently and simmer for about 10 minutes. Pour into a jar (a quart-sized mason jar is perfect) and let cool to room temperature before serving or refrigerating.
